The Prestige & The Illusionist

Hehe.. aku tak tau apa kemaruk melanda. Lagi dua cerita aku tonton hari ini. Yang pertama ialah The Prestige yang membariskan Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale & Scarlett Johansson sebagai pelakonnya. Sinopsis cerita The Prestige berdasarkan laman web IMDB.com:

"A mysterious story of two magicians whose intense rivalry leads them on a life-long battle for supremacy -- full of obsession, deceit and jealousy with dangerous and deadly consequences. From the time that they first met as young magicians on the rise, Robert Angier and Alfred Borden were competitors. However, their friendly competition evolves into a bitter rivalry making them fierce enemies-for-life and consequently jeopardizing the lives of everyone around them. Set against the backdrop of turn-of-the-century London."

Kisah kedua pula ialah The Illusionist lakonan Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti dan Jessica Biel. Sinopsis cerita The Illusionist pula adalah seperti berikut:

"In the turn of the Twentieth Century, in Vienna, the teenager Eduard Abramovich is the son of a cabinetmaker that becomes fascinated with magic. While practicing some tricks on the streets, he meets the upper-class Sophie, they become friends and later they fall in love for each other. When they are separated by Sophie's family, the broken-hearted Eduard travels to the Far East and fifteen years later he returns to Vienna as a famous illusionist with a different name, Eisenheim. While performing a show in the presence of the ambitious and ruthless Crown Prince Leopold and the corrupt Inspector Uhl, Sophie volunteers for a trick on the stage and they immediately recognize each other. The flame of their passion bursts, but Sophie is engaged of Leopold, as part of his political game to be crowned king with the support of Hungary in a coup d'état against his father. Sophie and Eisenheim plan to runaway together, but when the drunken Leopold discloses their intention, he apparently kills Sophie. The grieving Eisenheim brings his Chinese acquaintances and performs an amazing show, where nothing is what it seems."

Pada aku, kedua-dua cerita tersebut cukup unik dengan membawa kita kepada dua mesej yang berbeza tetapi amat bermakna. The Prestige membuatkan aku terfikir tentang 'sacrifice' ataupun pengorbanan. Semua orang pasti akan mengaku pernah membuat pengorbanan di dalam hidup mereka, biar besar mahupun kecil. Biar harta mahupun hati dan perasaan. Namun cerita ini membuatkan aku berfikir, apakah pengorbanan yang kita lakukan atau mahu lakukan betul-betul bermakna bukan sahaja untuk diri kita mencapai cita-cita dan kehendak diri sendiri, tetapi untuk orang lain. Untuk orang yang kita sayangi. Untuk orang yang kita kasihi. Apakah erti pengorbanan ini sekiranya ada orang lain yang terseksa? Ada orang lain yang merana?

Cerita The Illusionist pula mengajak penonton berfikir tentang kehidupan kita semua. Adakah semua yang kita lihat itu benar? Atau sebenarnya ada maksud lain di sebalik apa yang deria kita mampu capai? Adakah kita hanya percaya apa yang kita lihat, dengar, hidu, rasa dan sentuh tanpa cuba untuk berfikir sejenak tentang hakikat perkara tersebut atau hikmah peristiwa tersebut? Adakah kita jenis orang yang hanya menerima? Atau kita orang yang hanya menyoal? Atau kita tergolong dalam orang-orang yang berfikir?

Apa-apapun, aku suka kedua-dua cerita tersebut. Korang macam mana? Yang mana satu pada korang yang lebih seronok ditonton? Lebih bermakna buat diri korang?
